Standard Information Model

Biobank Data Target Architecture

The data architecture supports common research questions about availability of bio-specimens in a secure manner by separating the research questions from the operational support of a biobank. A data format (CBM-NL) has been defined to transfer information about samples from the Biobank Information Management System (BIMS) in the research institutes to the tools (bio-specimens catalogue, workflow) in the TraIT Platform.

The data model describes samples on three levels:

  1. Collection: information on availability, contacts, etc.
  2. Participant: information on diagnosis, gender, etc.
  3. Sample: information on tissue type, preservation, etc.

The model is compatible with the NCI Common Bio-Repository model and implements all of the attributes from the MIABIS minimal information model as defined by the BBMRI-ERIC catalogue working group.
